What is happening with Aminet?
For about a couple of months I have been getting lots of issues accessing Aminet.
I usually use its web interface (www.aminet.net), and many times, like right now, it is down Then, when online, there are some usability issues: -Most downloads are redirected to aminet servers which are offline (2 out of 3 aprox.), which is really anoying. -When trying to read the readme from the filelist in the description, I only get a full archive download, and not the txt file like before. And that happens if the issue above does not appear It is really sad to see Aminet in such a state. I know that FTP to a certain server might probably work with no issues, but then it would be great that the web interface could return to its former glory. |

I've noticed this too - many mirrors give a 404 not found error.
Such a shame |

There are lots of ftp-server still online and available. i think the "frontend" is broken. some archives on ftp-servers based in the united states aren't accessable. someone has to fix the list of available mirrors.

I havenĀ“t found lots of working servers, just three. And the worst thing is that mirror lists in the web seem pretty outdated

www.amiga-newss.de is down, too.
Maybe it's kind of related, as C.Gutjahr initialized the relaunch of aminet mirrors in 2005 or so. Current servers available: ftp.sunet.se/pub/aminet/ ftp.rz.uni-wuerzburg.de/pub/amiga/aminet/ ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de/pub/amiga/aminet/ ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/aminet/ |

Please do not make personal mirrors of Aminet, the archive itself is safe. All of our mirrors are donated by private individuals, universities or non-profit organisations whose ressources you are wasting by downloading 50 GB of stuff you'll never need. The main server has been shaky for quite a while, we're going to move somewhere else soon. As for mirrors, I regularly check the mirrors in the database, but they're dying like flies these days (fortunately, we don't need them as urgently as we used to). I'll recheck once we're back online. Edit: We're back online. Last edited by Korodny; 26 May 2014 at 15:08. |
