Two CF Cards with A1200?

Hello,

I was wondering if it is possible to connect two CF cards with an A1200? or do I need some special hardware (apart from obviously the CF to IDE card)?

I would like to install Workbench 3.1 on one of the CF card and use the other CF card to store personal files etc.

You could use the IDE port for one and the PCMCIA port+adapter for another. The IDE one will be bootable and the PCMCIA one will be for storage and as the PCMCIA one is fat32 formatted you can use it to transfer files from the PC to the Amiga

That's a great setup Hansel.

But talking about using two CF as HD, I don't understand just why. If I want to have two 8Gb CF I buy a 16Gb one.

If I use a standard dual CD adaptor will the A1200 see that as one disk or two? For me what is important is that I can pull one (with the OS) and replace with another (different OS) while still having the other CF card intact (with files).

It will see it as two.

Thanks, those 2 cf cards in my pic are used for the HD's.
It would be nice to use cf cards larger then 4gb, but i have heard they can be problematic.

That's why i have 2x 4gb cf HD's as drive 1 and 2 and they work fine together.
It's also handy with the cards mounted in the back of the A1200 because i can pull out a cf HD without having to open the A1200.

Sim085 to make what you want Hansel's setup is perfect. In fact it is a nice idea to have a CF with all the games, etc (just games can be 3Gb) so you haven't got to copy them for every OS you want to try like I have to.

Hi,
I also connected 2 different dual-cf adapters to my A1200 directly to IDE 44 port inside with a short cable. I wanted to duplicate CF-Cards this way (backup), but I always got errors when many files were copied.

So, after reading many threads, I bought a used 4xEIDE'99 buffered interface with two buffered IDE 40 ports and one not buffered IDE 44 port (pass-through only).
On one buffered IDE 40 port I connected a dual-cf adapter and the problems went away forever.
So I did it the same way with my second Amiga 1200 as you can see on the pictures.

Both those dual CF setups look great.

I prefer to split my storage too, if one CF dies you only loose half you data as a pose to one large CF...

I have 2x 8gb in my A1200, well (had) I sold my IDEFix Express so right now just one of the CF are installed.

I could do with getting a dual CF adapter

Two CF Cards with A1200?

I did it this way, as I didn't want to damage the case.
