Do you have the complete packages or just the boxes?
If complete, than all of them would be nice

Actually the two Blitz versions are not needed, unless we can't find a retail package of them or the budget versions have significant differences - unlikely on those titles.

Before you turn your scanner on:
http://www.caps-project.org/scanning.shtml

Please consult with Fiath about the details and the prefererred order of scans, since some games here have huge manuals.

On the subject of budget games, CAPS will want to make a point to grab the Hit Squad Platinum Edition releases (ie, Wing Commander, Robocop 3, etc.) as those really were remastered with various fixes or enhancements. But I am sure you already know this.

VermillioN: How about starting with "It Came From The Desert" since it is on the release list. Once we have done that, we can decide on what others to do. Thanks!

TG: Well, I didn't know that - thanks for the info! Is that the version of Robocop 3 without the dongle? BTW - Do you know if there are any enhancements to the box/manual? When IFW was talking about not bothering with the budget versions, I believe he was talking about the packaging. As you probably know better than I, many budget versions have bug fixes etc. which would be a shame to go un-preserved.

AmiGer: Have you seen the size of the package for Midwinter II ? It contains bloody books! Probably will be the first CAPS release over 20Gb.

Ahem...
Maybe you can adjust your scanning rules and produce smaller png-files like these wallpapers...

Just wish that VermillioN can scan it completely - it is all the wish you'll ever need - the rest is magic

I was just kidding. At a very rough estimate, Midwinder II would probably be around 50Mb. Perhaps 100Mb at the very most.

But no, we won't change the scan quality. Why should we "punish" the developers of a game, just because they went to the bother of doing a really great package?

If the release is big, it is big. It won't matter much in 10-20 years, so we may as well do it properly now.

Correct, though in many cases the games themselves are cracks in budget versions... so those won't be used.
This usually happens when the company tries to be really cheap and duplicates on cheap systems, that can only write the ados format... Also happened when the master was lost... Or they wanted to make the package cheaper without the original material, Kixx budget releases come to mind immediately... Not to mention Elite (the game, not the company) where afair they removed the novella protection in order to save on the novella printing...
Of course many budget releases contain the remittance of the original print repackaged/badged.
...and some are really different versions, like the ones TG mentioned.

While some authors might deserve to be punished, people associated with Midwinter 2 are certainly not on my list
A lot of effort went into the game to make it worthy and to make their gaming universe complete and a lot of effort went into the manuals as well.
That is something I really happen to like.

@fiath

Just kidding, too...

@all

It exists also a german version (and a german manual I hope) of Midwinter II. Of course that would be more interesting for me. I wonder if it would be worth the work ? Hm, I could ask at gaeb (german board) if somebody has the box...
However, the english version would be also great...

@VermillioN

if you have enough time (for me) I would be very delighted for getting Millenium 2.2 (maybe after ICFTD)...

Yes we have the Deutsch version of Midwinter 2 dumped. We prefer to go for an English version first (!) since that can reach a wider audience, however since some major contributors are from Germany rest assured your Deutsch gaming needs will be satisfied if possible.
Afaik there are some Deutsch games coming and many of the manuals are multi-language anyway, usually English, Deutsch, Francais.
For a Deutsch only example you may want to check out Fatal Heritage, that should be available soonish on BTTR. It is the only unmodfiied version of the game thanks to the authors and the efforts Bernd put into this - and thanks to me for supporting its protection
Some games have specific packaging for specific markets a recent example is Unreal that we were lucky to have both versions scanned, thanks to Ville9.

The Deutsch version of Midwinder 2 might be difficult to get scanned simply because of the size of the manuals, but if anyone is doing it properly it will definitely happen.

btw: obviously when we do these things we do it for everyone, not just you - and I'm pretty sure Millennium 2.2 and Deuteros are titles that most people would enjoy

:eek I'm impressed. Many, many thanks... That would be great

Of course, I didn't mean it like I wrote it...

...the Deutsch version...
funny..., in germany we would write "deutsche" (lowercase and "e" and the end). But only in this case... Because german is a damn complicated language and some of us don't understand it as well...

Sorry for my poor German
Actually I have seen it only written like Deutsch in manuals so far... and Ville9 did not complain and he is a genuine German guy as well

sadly as I said before, I sold all the software years ago.. but I'm sure the other material may aid the quest of preservation
Also I have not much an idea to how many are 100% complete..so I updated the above list accordingly

Thumbs up

Well ICFTD is scanned, packed and ready to upload.. just waiting on response from faith

While I was going through the shed I found a stack of official hint books I'd forgotten about, (Monkey Island, Space Quest, Immortal, Chaos Strikes Back etc.. )
imo these books are classics in there own right and was wondering if you guys ever thought about preserving these aswell
