OS3.9 with ClassicWB in 4gb CF only boots after reset!

Hi all,

I have run into a very strange problem with a kingston 4gb CF card. I recently prepared the card and formatted it with PFS. I installed ClassicWB with OS3.9 on the card successfully via WinUAE. My setup in WinUAE is the same as my real Amiga 1200 (68030@50Mhz with 16Mb RAM, 3.1 ROM).

The CF cards boots fine in WinUAE. But I could not make it boot in my real Amiga. I've read in other threads that I needed to edit my Startup-Sequence file and comment out the relevant lines of OS3.9 checks (for IDE-fix etc) and only leave uncommented the "setpatch scsi.device quiet" line. So far so good. But... now the strange part: every time I turn the switch on, the system tries to boot from the card and resets! But AFTER reset, the system boots from the card normally, and boom, I'm in the Workbench screen in a few seconds!

If I reset the machine, the system also reboots fine! But every time I turn my Amiga off, the next time I turn it on, the same pattern happens! Cold reset: reads from CF but leads to a reset and then reads CF again and I'm in Workbench. Warm reset: always reads CF and boots fine...

Any ideas guys? (thank you very much for your time!)

It has to load the 3.9 kickstart file from disk into memory and then reset and use it to boot from. Additional reboots do not need to do that becuase it is already resident in memory.

As Acid says that's normal behavior. If you want to skip the extra reboot you need to burn a custom Rom file with the OS3.9 modules inside the Rom.

Thanks for your replies, guys! Now I understand why it works after the extra reboot. So, it's normal! It just took me by surprise, because after so many hours of research, reading various tutorials, so many sources... I don't remember anyone mentioned this before. No tutorial ever mentioned that this happens in an Amiga 1200, so I didn't know what to expect...

Can you share a pic of desktop as I'm interested in how it looks. I'm wondering whether to this for my A1200...

Sorry I've just Google'd the screenshot! Nice! And it apparently works without accelerator so will work with just mere additional Fast RAM. How much RAM is used to once in WB? I'm just wondering if it will have enough for WHDLoad on 8MB fast RAM.

OS3.9 with ClassicWB almost uses around 4-5 Mb of RAM... In ClassicWB's site, it clearly states that in order to use OS3.9 you should have an accelerator... Check this:
