4way ide splitter trouble

i have bought this 4 way ide splitter from vesalia and i'm having troubles using it...
maybe i'm doing something wrong.

if i connect my compact flash card reader to the 40pin ide connector next to the chips (the right one) it works. and that's normal.
if i connect it to the other 40 pin connector, it doesn't boot, and also this should be normal without the idefix97 driver working.

if i connect the cf reader to the right ide and a cd-rom player to the left one, then the Amiga boots to the insert disc kickstart 3.1 screen...

if i connect again the cf on the right and the cd to the left ide but with red wire of the cd cable on the other side, then the computer boots but hangs after the kickstart patches (like prepare emul) reboots.

so.... i can't find a solution to make it works... am i doing something wrong with cables?

My 4way IDE does not like some CF cards, with some it just shows kickstart screen even though the work on the normal IDE.

I think they are just a bit quirky with certain setups, just be sure you follow the manual and plug the IDE's the right way round.

Steve.

It would be easier to help if you made a photo or scan from the instructions rather than from the actual device. The instructions should tell you where to connect the red wire. Connecting it wrong may destroy the device.

Try a harddrive instead of the CF card. CF cards can be rather picky with other devices.

How do you supply power to the devices? The standard A1200 power supply may be too weak for a CD drive.

Did you already install IDEfix software? You need to patch it to work with CF cards. http://aminet.net/package/driver/media/IDEFix_patches

steve, can you send me a scan or a photo of the instructions when you have time?

CF Card and 4 Way IDE trubs

Hi loth77,

I have some old info from EyeTech about various configs using a Buffered IDE 4 way splitter and various devices, but not CF Cards.

It's quite a large file in HTML format but no pictures.

I can read it with the program "Next" OK, and it will open in a browser (AWeb) as well.

At the end of the info there are schematics of various connected devices.

Do you want me to PM the files to you ?

Regards, Michael

thanks to both

the instructions seems to be for the same device and shows what i knew before having the adapter... i'm starting to feel that it is some hardware problem...

i think that because when i connect something to the secondary ide port the Amiga doesn't boot at all. (i have tried also a normal hard disk)
