Can I take this and just pop it in My commodore 1200 as I think it would feel more nostalgic having a real hdd in there |

A 10GB (I refuse to use 'b' as 'b' is for 'bit', not 'Byte') hard drive won't be fully accessible using the standard file system.
It's easy enough to work around, but would you rather have a 15 year old secondhand 10GB hard drive of unknown pedigree, or a brand new 8GB CF card and IDE converter for a similar price with a manufacturer's warranty? |

Yes, it will work but the screw holes won't allign with the holes in the caddy, so best to use velcro. Only very old drives have the holes in the correct place (up to 2GB or something).
You can use all of the 10GB if you use an updated scsi.device instead of the one built into Kickstart 2/3.0/3.1. If you don't use an updated scsi.device or OS3.9, you can use PFS-AIO in direct scsi mode which will utilise 8GB of the drive (you won't be able to use the remaining 2GB). Nostalgia is key here, I too prefer a real H.D.D. ;-) |
