A1200 only boots once every 10-20 times with BPPC

I seem to have a new problem. As the title suggests, when my BPPC is inserted, it's only successfully booting once every 10-20 or so power cycles.

This is a new symptom and only started recently. It's been working fine on my Rev 2B board before, but now it seems to be being a bit fussy.

the only differences between now and then, was i had to remove the BPPC to carry out a power diversion solder job on the underside of the mobo so I dont have to run stuff from the floppy port. before i did this, my BPPC was nicely secure from glue gun glue preventing it from "sagging" out the bottom of the trapdoor.

could this be the problem? is it because the BPPC isn't perfectly sat in it's hole?

I did try to prop it up inside the trap door, but it doesn't seem to make much difference, although it still wasn't perfectly flush.

also... how fragile are the oscillators that go into these? i did accidentally drop the 66mhz oscillator on the floor which bounced around a fair bit. I switched it out for the old 50Mhz one and have successfully booted a couple of times with it, but not with the 66mhz.

If that's true, you are giving the answer to yourself, and the crystal isn't expensive.

yes but even with the 50Mhz crystal, i'm still getting only intermittent boots.

Dirty edge connector would also cause this problem.

thanks FOL. edge connectors cleaned, and now working every boot! phew!

and yes, the 66mhz crystal was dead. time to put an order in with Amigakit methinks.
