Were there any black and white hi-res games on Amiga?

By black and white on Amiga I mean 16 greyscales and in 640x400 minimum?

Could be any type of game style, graphic adventure, static screen etc doesn't have to be an 8 way scrolling isometric or 2.5D extravaganza.

Floor 13 springs to mind but it's not interlaced. Looking at previous threads I'm not aware of anything that's hires laced and 16-color greyscale, which is a little odd. Lots of games using greyscale, but not hires laced.

Darkseed is hi-res interlace afaik, but not completely monochrome - albeit often very close to it and in general rather low saturiation.

I was just watching some giant insect movies in black and white, like Them and Tarantula, which were on TV all the time back in the mid 80s so it's weird nobody thought to do some sort of game like that.

Maybe a side-conversion of Law of the West with giant spiders/ants coming out from behind buildings in the foreground would be a nice little project to get used to making games with Scorpion Engine.

640x512 in 16 greyscales is pretty much black and white photograph quality on a 14" CRT display to be honest. I'm sure an arcade style game with scrolling is out of the question

If you don't mind considering a Flight Sim, I think the Fighter Duel series might fit.
Pretty sure it was hires...
(I think that's what caught my eye when I bought it back in the day.. It's been a while.)

Can't remember about the number of colors, but I'm sure it wasn't many. ;-)

Yep, but then there are no graphics (so it's literally black and white):

would be nice to have games like that, we could potentially get something like West of Loathing/Shadows over Loathing.

Which demo do you mean? 'Fighter Duel - Corsair vs. Zero (demo-rolling) (1991)(Jaeger)[h 17-Bit Software]' that is in TOSEC has the normal 5 (?) color graphics.

Well that potential was always there, but it required a genius with the right sense of humor to come along

Although the 21st century might still be involved because I have the idea that a large component of those games is to get streamers to play it and react to it.

Were there ever any Vectrex-games that were remade on the Amiga? Perfect candidate for highres interlace. black and white

Right up until the point any line approaches being horizontal.

Yeah, I agree it is more than 2 colors... ;-)
Not sure about the demos, but I just pulled down my boxed copies of Coarsair vs Zero (which was the one I had back in the day) and Fighter Duel Pro, and they both mention hires interlaced on the boxes...

My copy of Corsair vs Zero says: "hi-res, interlaced, color"
I don't have great eyes for color, but I was able to count at least 6 different colors on the screenshot on the back of the box.
So I'd guess an 8 color mode?

Yep, it seems that way. That would be 3 bitplanes I guess. There's a thread about performance gain with less bitplanes right now: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=114324
I would say that is the reason.

I'll add the Fighter Duel games to the hi-res list on HOL now

Fighter Duel Pro was fun, played that H2H via modem plenty of times back in the day.

Anyway, The Colony can be set to black and white (not greyscale unfortunately) in high-res or either b&w or color in low-res:

I recall some disk where hires interlace 1 (2 colors, light gray and black) bitplane vector flight simulation run with some text about future, oncoming game - if my memory is not faded it was one of Fighter Duel titles...

So this is demo i was able to run on my Amiga (somewhere in first half of 90's) - it was if i recall some DOS starting (so definitely not demo in sens of demoscene product).
