Daylight Robbery/Flippin' Gravity

Friends of mine (Vision Designs - formerly Expanding Minds) wrote this game many years ago and I was one of the (unpaid volunteer) level designers.

The game was first developed on the ST which included a built-in level designer. A standalone version of the game was then created and was also ported to the Amiga.

Electronic Zoo had the rights to publish it and managed to get the game in demo form onto several magazines including Amiga Action, Zero, ST Format.

Unfortunately, Electronic Zoo then went bust before the game was released.

Vision Designs then made a game curiously like Daylight Robbery called Flippin' Gravity. It was effectively a change of graphics (set in space this time), sound effects and a complete set of new levels (again I was one of the level designers).

Alternative Software this time was going to be the publisher, unfortunately after paying Vision Designs for the publishing rights, the game yet again was never to see the light of day. This time not even a demo version was released.

Their next and final game was published (by Alternative), which was Pixie & Dixie. Not a patch on Daylight Robbery/Flippin' Gravity though.

I still keep in touch with one of the Vision Designs team, but he has no idea whether he still has a copy of the games (in either formats) anymore unfortunately.

Ahem.

If the game never saw the light of day, this section is the wrong one and it should be moved to Amiga Games That Weren't (aGTW).
Nor would the MIA list be suitable, as this is for missing games which were actually released.

But maybe I'm hopelessly wrong...?

not sure to be honest.

Posted this in here, because Daylight Robbery was in the MIA list and that definitely wasn't published beyond the demo

congrats on completing it

pity it wasn't the full version, i'd love to play it again

as a single player game it lacked something, but it was fun competing for the gems with two other people.

really need to harass my mate to see if he or the game's coder has any copies of it or the remake still. Wouldn't mind another copy of the ST development versions either - had a lot of fun making levels for it.

Yes please do that, this game is exactly as tough as I need it
The MAYHEM level has beaten it! The idea of the robo-insects sucking energy from you on the one hand, but being mandatory for solving this level on the other is brill!

Wow cool ! There was a review in AMIGA JOKER. And I was looking for it since that time.
I think it got a very bad review score in AMIGA JOKER.

Hope that your m8 has a copy of it.

Yeah, stumbled across that too - used google's translator to understand what the review said but the translation is a bit hit or miss.

"Und last but not least muß sich der dritte Spieler mit der Tastatur rumärgern, was das Game selbst für eingeschworene Rudel-Zocker nur begrenzt empfehlenswert macht"

becomes

"And read but emergency leases itself must the third player with the keyboard rumärgern, which makes the Game only limited recommendable for sworn in herd Zocker"

which doesn't make any sense

I suspect it means that having support for a 3rd player on the keyboard makes the game slightly recommendable for Rudel-Zocker (whatever Rudel-Zocker means)

Rudel-Zocker ~ a group of players
I'll have a read on the review now, sounds interesting.

EDIT: a short english overview after reading: the low score is because of the too simple game principle (collect gems against time) for a 1992 game, stupid enemies, boring background gfx and poor animated sprites. Music is good, but sound-fx poor (only a few samples).

Amiga Joker review from issue 2/1992, page 32, Score: 30%

99 DM ( Deutsche Mark ) for an AMIGA game ???
That was very expensive for 1992 I think (around 35 Pounds). And I thought ELECTRONIC ZOO was a low budged label.

lol, i used 5.25" disks coz they were cheaper. I remember i bought used disks sold as packs with 500 disks with ex PC stuff (disk deleted and label made black with a spray) from a recycle company! Later i DMS'ed most of my disks and used DAT tapes, trashed the disks. Oh yes i only dms'ed my disks with games, 5k disks with games, needed weeks of non-stop work for that! I had no motivation to dms my demo collection with over 2k disks - talk of rare stuff m8!

Me too m8!
XCOPY sessions with my m8 in the afternoon. with only 512k the first months, so you have to swap the discs twice.

Glory days.

39 DM for Hi-Q DD disks is indeed realistic.
FUJI disks were about DM 22,95 etc...

, i used a 5.25 disk-drive too (448 DM !).With internal boot-selector,
to boot games directly from the 5.25 disk. But "real" trackloaders
like silkworm refused to work on a 5.25 disk.

Yeah glory days.
