A4000 won't see Hard drive

Good afternoon.

I'm getting my Amiga 4000 up and going again after too many years.

Every thing has ground to a halt, HDToolBox won't see any hard drive or the IDE to SD interface that I hook up to the cable, I've also tried a few different cables.

The red line on the cable is plugged in to pin 1, the opposite end of the cable is oriented correctly with the slot.

Master has been selected on the hard drive (Seagate ST38422A 8.6 GB - 4GB partitioned not yet created)

HDToolbox has scsi.device in 'Tool Types'

When I start HDToolBox I get

Checking scsi.device address 0 unit 0 ...

Nothing shows on the following screen.

I've tested the hard drive and SD card interface on the PC and they work fine.

I feel I'm missing something simple ... any ideas any one??????

Thanks Again
Glenn

Computer Specs
The computer is an Amiga 4000/030
3.00 ROM 39.106
Copyright 1985-1992

I use to run a small magazine and on-line video titles and end credits business with this Amiga which superseded an Amiga 2000

The rest of my Amiga specific gear that I still have is:

An OpalVision graphics card connected to a GBS 8220 graphics converter.
Neriki Desktop Genlock
Emplant with Seagate ST12400N SCSI Hard Drive formatted and loaded for MacIICX emulation, a Iomega Zip 100 and Syquest 88MB C
GVP HC+8 series 2 with 8MB RAM connected to a Yamaha CRW8824S CD-rewritable drive and a Umax UC840 flatbed scanner.

About to hook up a Raspberry Pi B+ and floppy emulator interface, when the parts arrive I will be adding a Plipbox to connect to the home network.

Question

Can you check the IDE interface with another hard drive?

You may need a newer version of HDToolbox for devices over 4GiB?

Try a smaller device?

Preformat your device using WinUAE?

Thanks for the replys

So far I have tried 3 hard drives, the ST38422A is the smallest I own, the SD card in the IDE to SD interface is 4GB, if I have time to scratch the gluteus maximus Tomorrow I'll open the office and set up a hard drive in WinUAE, from memory to setup a hard drive bigger than 4GB I need to update the Kickstart chips to version 3.1, if you now of any other way to use greater than 4Gb without changing ROMs I'll try.

Thanks again
Glenn

Press Ctrl-A-A and try again.

It is a common phenomenon that the harddrive is not recognised on the first try with Kick 3.0. An upgrade to 3.1 might help. A short delay as caused by a flash ROM (thinking of Deneb USB) helps, too.

Cool, sounds like 3.1 is on the menu now, my version of 3.0, the CPU and memory all fits the requirements, I'll finish the Floppy emulator and have a go.

No, I meant upgrading the ROM. The OS version does not matter.

It would not help your problem, but yes you can.
