PS2 with 299 Mhz CPU
I recently brought a NOS PS2 its the 50003 model with the built in IR receiver and slightly faster 299Mhz CPU (as opposed to the usual 294Mhz CPU). Back in the day I had the very first launch PS2 model.
One of my favourite game series of all time is the Wipeout games, so I fired up Wipeout Fusion. now back in the day I remember this game having quite bad lag/slowdown on some tracks, the frame rate used to dip very noticeably at times, but with my new PS2, I have not noticed this lag at all! Don't get me wrong im obviously not complaining, it's great but I don't understand it and I'd like to. I find it hard to believe that an extra 5Mhz would make that much difference, is there something else in the newer PS2's that makes games run better? |

Maybe lags were because of problems with drive or DVD, not CPU.
