jst problems with some files based installers

i know that jst is no more supported, but i want to check if some other users have the same problem...

jst installs based on disk images are just fine.
but all jst installs based on files extracts give me some trouble (namely hugo1&2, major motion, apprentice...):

-when i install them on a small-sized hd (less than 100Mb) and launch them with the preload option everyting works great
-when i install them on my 2Gb hd and launch them with preload option they often freeze before the start of the game.

i found a little trick to make them work anyway but it's not really clean (so any help welcomed!!) : i first launch a whd game with big files/images consumption (dragon's lair for instance), then quit and launch my jst game...and then it works fine !!!

it seems really weird no ?

IIRC, most... well, at least the JST Yo!Joe! install did that 100% times on my Amy... if you load it for the first time, it works quite OK, but if you then exit and load it again it freezes - i found, that only reset was the solution for that...

In both cases, it's probably the memory fragmentation issue... not that i'm a programmer or anything...

I don't know why anyone would use JST when WHDLoad is so good... I never got to work most installs while WHDLod always works correctly

you're right akira but as it took me a lot of time to upload my whole collection on my a1200 hd (around 2Gb via 720k floppy disks!!!), i would like to avoid having to change all my jst installs with whdload ones (especially for big sized games like hugo.....)... any advice on how to patch this ?

I am already patched all Hugo games for whdload

Look on whdlaod home page
http://www.whdload.de/cgi-bin/search.cgi

and search Hugo

this is a great occasion to thank you cfou for the great job you accomplished !!!!

i know that these whdload patches exist but my main concern is that i'm too lazy to upload all whdload games and reinstall them again on my a1200 (especially for both hugo that are around 6Mb each meaning around 20 disks in total!!)

Listen up, I admire your patience but that's fr from optimal!!!!

I hope you have Windows XP or 2000, and if not, upgrade. Just this bit is worth an upgrade

Take your Amiga's HD
Insert it in your PC

Fire up WinUAE and mount this drive in the emulation
Copy it all to your drive

ta-dah!

Don't use JST.

JST was good in it's time but WHDLoad rocks nowadays. My first experience with an installed HD-game was with JST...and boy was that a marvellous discovery

YEs, remember him and JST, but use WHDLod and HIS INSTALLS because JST is shit by today's standards. That's why he makes WHDLoad patches!

Maybe it's a filesystem related problem... What filesystem is on the 2GB hd? Try to use SFS if the current filesystem is FFS. Anyway WHDLoad rocks!
