As I originally thought, all commercial releases of
Battleships appear to have speech. Makes me wonder whether all the cracks without speech came from leaked beta copies of the game, or if the cracks were botched or butchered in some way.
Anyway, I'd rather have speech than no speech during the game.....even if the speech isn't the greatest! Otherwise it becomes a bit monotonous like the C64 version of Beach Head with just simple sound FX.

IIRC, RNC is utilised on the original releases (must check again for my own curiosity), but not on the budget/compilation versions. Rob Northen reckons he did do some protection for the game, though - the game's listed in his cracking
