Take a look at Budgie and Gayle in the A1200 schema.
There are two of each chip! but they couldn't have done it neatly any other way.
You could connect a 10K resistor between the stuck
direction pin and +5V to eliminate the possibility of
the failure of one resistor in the resistor pack.
