Often wondered about using that space for a zip drive in the past! or removable 2.5 inch drive pack. I am surprised commodore never thought of something like that back along.
The Gotek would fit perfectly, the only other work apart from cutting an opening would be to modify the lower metal shielding, a small bit will get in the way and stop the gotek sitting nicely.
