... but I have the original and I know that the very same problems occured quite often on a plain A1200HD Kick 3.0.
I had the game installed correctly from the original disks and it worked nicely (it really is one of the greatest games), but every once in while I got the same messed up graphics.
I would just hit the ESC button a billion times and then try again and then it worked sometimes.
Unfortunately I this was 7 years ago and I didn't know that much about my Amiga back then, so I didn't check if the problem could be due to not enough ChipMem.
I believe the disabled CPU caches don't have anything to do with it, neither would a degrader affect it.
Maybe you should try booting with no startup-sequence and execute the game from the command line.
As soon as I get back home, I'll try installing it again, so if you can't solve this problem in about a week, message me again.
