I believe the guy that did Mr Wobbly Leg Versus The Invaders From Space was hired by one of the larger game developers (Gremlin? EA?) after being discovered in some magazine competition (I'm not entirely sure. It's a vague memory).

While not entirely a PD developer, Andy Davidson of Worms fame had written Total Wormage. Had it not been snatched up by Team 17, I would bet it would've been PD, given it was done towards the mainstream end of Amiga gaming (Around 95).

I think Gareth Murfin, the developer of Gloom 3 started off in the PD shareware world. I recall seeing his stuff frequently on Amiga Format and CU Amiga CoverCDs. I can't recall if he created games but I know he did some software at the very least.

I'm sure there's much more, but that's all I can recall off the top of my head.
