Yes, it's a must as there is resistor on the motherboard and socket wouldn't fit at all if not that chip. I advise against desoldering socket without gas soldering station. I destroy my vampire like that. Majsta had mercy and replaced for me. My Vampire collecting dust at the moment as it's not compatible with stuff I use. I'm waiting for new core.
