What's nice about B5 is that it is a real story. Things don't get reset at the end of each episode to how they were before. You see the seeds of intrigue and wars in earlier episodes that will change the storyline profoundly later on. It looks a little ropey to start with but things get better quickly, and the story becomes more "shadowy" as thing progress.
