How ironic to think how expensive "serious" computers like the "IBM compatible" were compared to "toy computers" such as the Amiga and Atari...

One thing I would like to mention: there is a reason for the massive preference of academia for the 68k. Between 1985 and 1995 you could hardly find any computer architecture textbook or assembly language course that used the x86 instead of the 68k. It was technically much better than the x86 and only lost to it for economical reasons.
