Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I have just found one of these in my loft along with a number of other Amiga peripherals. I've linked it up to my A500 and it chunters away fine (it actually makes a very pleasing noise when it boots up!) and autoloads Workbench. In all honesty it's going to Ebay with everything else - but what does it actually do!?
