I'm downloading with flashget with only one download at the same time and only one jet for a file. It works but I have to log on and off for every file I download.
I tried to use SmartFTP but it did not display files or folders as you said and smart usually displays hidden files unlike other clients. They must have found another way to hide their files than setting it's attributes to hidden.
