The solution is quite simple. Tell your wife you will sell the 486's on eBay for very very cheap. Then you can buy an A1200HD with the 486 fund. This way you will not have to actually spend any money on an A1200 with a hard drive. You will probably end up making a small profit. Plus you will keep your wife happy by making some room in your house by getting rid of those crappy waste-of-space 486's. A1200's take up very little space. That should keep both of you happy.
