A soundcard is able to mix different sounds (decoded on x channels) to an assigned stereo out. Any of these channels can be edited, like play drums or trumpets or mute.
The mp3/ogg decoder on this card is just like those many portable mp3 players. it reads data from memory and decodes the file to stereo out.
It cannot edit the trumpet or the bell. You cannot compose music as you do with famous trackers.
you can't play the shotgun sound in game when mowing down the enemies. this is still the job of paula. What a &%$& . Having nice background music with crackling 8 bit 8 khz samples will prove the hardware to be old.
