I agree it would be better. But I would rather save money and use this GOTEK option with a few button presses. Remember this is being developed for free. With the drive and serial programmer I have spent less than 23 euros on this.
Have you checked out the Raspberry Pi floppy emulator in Hardware Support thread? There is talk of potentially using a separate display off the Pi.
