It just sounds like it does something fishy. Preferably it should be completely transparent and just bridge any Ethernet<->WiFi traffic on the Ethernet packet level - acting as a wirelessly attached switch to your normal AP.
Are you sure it still isn’t acting as a router, creating a separate network for anything connected to it?
