Argh this thread has given me a head hurt.
I (think I) remember an Amiga racing game that went like this. I'm pretty sure you raced in minis, the track was mostly dirt (maybe like rallying), it was fixed screen (so no scrolling), the cars were really small, it was shown at an elevated angle like Indy Heat. Not sure if it was multi-player. There were short-cuts I seem to remember which really slowed you down but saved a lot of distance, and there might well have been those like of Dunlop bridges that you raced under.

http://oagd.net/browse/racing and it's none of them. Anyone have an idea? It might have been a non-english game maybe, it certainly wasn't a game I had seen advertised or read about.
