I can do all that in After Effects, with lightwave render passes But I would feel bad if I do it, because it's not an Amiga app, and it would be cheating (imho).
That's exactly how they did it back in the B5 days when they did not have much RAM to load many objects at once.

One would start by rendering the first scene to serve as Background, and keeping Camera and Lights information intact, you unload everything else while loading and placing the next 'layer' of ships, and so on...
