Returning back to DOS was largely irrelevant, as a reset takes seconds and you can simply load something else, its only with the advent of cheaper expansion ram and cheaper hard drives that having a game quit back to DOS was advantageous.
And the Amiga was first designed as a console, hence its console-eque programming
