I've now re-enabled the C/C++ extension and the error seems to have disappeared. Perhaps this requirement should be mentioned in the release notes, I'd disabled it because I took "no additional tools required" literally.

Ah. I see, GNU make can't handle spaces in pathnames. Since 2002, no less.
