First to you all hi for coming in the forums, welcome.

The easiest way to configure the controls such as using a real joystick is use a USB Joystick or Joypad and press F12 to get into the setup or startup WinUAE and there should be a tab called Hosts and in there should be a Games Port configuration that allows you to select which input you want from which port you choose.

WinUAE is the recommended emulator from my experience to use but you will have to obtain some legal roms unfortunately I cannot help you where to get roms.

If you are going to use a controller get one that automatically detects and drivers installed automatically from Windows XP or Windows 7 that way you can use your controller without the hassle of driver issues unless the controller requires specific drivers.

Hope this helps.
