Check out ImpulseTracker on the PC as a good alternative to FastTracker. I think it includes all features and improved the flexibility - even I can make modules that sound half decent using the instrument configurations which would take me ages to do using the Protracker effect commands (although you still can use them if you want).

The DOS version runs in a Windows DOS box and requires none of those endless f**king Windows Plugin/DirectX crap.
