The 2M and 4M versions have different CPLD logic, because the $c0 memory is taken from the other memory chip in case of the 4M version. This is done in order to have the largest possible *continuous* memory block - otherwise you'd have fragmented memory "by design", and that would really be a reason to complain (not just for the trolls).
So no, just soldering on the memory chip won't do the trick. It's two different logic sets, but *hopefully* the same software image for the flashrom.
