AROS uses amiga file systems (sfs is your best option thus far). You can read/write fat partitions amd read ntfs partitions, but youre best off using sfs.
Also, no need to be clued up on linux to use AROS. AROS has nothing to do with linux

If youre not confortable with AROS hdtoolbox then use the installer, which will create partitions itself (although its not very flexible).
Alternatively you could just install to another harddrive (or usb stick/sd card/etc.), and select boot device to select the OS youre booting.
