I would highly recommend that you learn how to use WinUAE, it's a wonderful emulator, and you can 'preview' changes in there before making them to your real machine.
The ROM files are legally available as part of the Amiga Forever package, which is honestly the only reason to buy it.

The emulator itself isn't at all hard to use, especially if you already have some knowledge of how to use an Amiga (which you obviously have).
