I find it a bit naive to think that you can run all games with just 2 MB of memory. Many games for the 1200 need all 2 MB for their own use. Such games usually also access the hardware directly leaving no room for the operating system to access a harddrive. For these games the floppy disk images need to be loaded into memory (that's what shadow mem means). A floppy disk image eats up to 880 kb, leaving ca. 1100 kb for the game. Should be obvious that a game which needs 2 mb does not work with only 1 mb free RAM.

Avoiding to load operating system components which are not needed saves you some memory, but it does not guarantee that "those games" will run. Especially as you didn't give any hint about which games are "those".
