But I think filled circles are being displayed and not just points. And some of the filled circles look pretty large at times.
Maybe a hybrid approach involving the CPU for writing small circles and blitter area fill for large might work. CPU needs to do perspective/circle edge calculations. Using MULs and DIVs makes that almost free when the blitter is running concurrently.
Still, I don't think there's enough time per frame to do this.
