This may indeed be true, however I heard once (from may be not reliable source), that the PC Formatted '720k' disks were not always as high quality as the Mac (800k) or Amiga (880k) disk.

And let's not forget the ED extra high density disks of 4MB capacity, which really starts to show the crapness of PC formatting - 2.88MB.

I have also used an alternative filesystem on the Amiga disks which gave, I think, 960k!
