In a sense the Amiga was the spiritual heir of the Atari 8-bit series. Many of the team behind the Atari 8-bit hardware were also behind the Amiga. Unlike the Atari ST, which had a more minimalist chipset to provide a cheaper platform for the then-new 16-bit 68000 CPU (and MIDI support for musicians), the Amiga had a sophisticated custom graphics and audio chipset which was effectively the direct evolution of the Atari 800.

It's a pity Rescue on Fractalus never made it to the Amiga. It would have been hugely impressive at the time.
