I disagree. Although the scene presence is all but non-existent, the Amiga was very successful for some time in the US (at least in the 80s). I think it's the relative density of the population of the UK or Europe that makes it seem like there were more Amigas around.
Wasn't succesful enough to be embraced by Americans though.
Those in the know embraced it for its technical abilities, hence the likes of NewTek.
But for games, it didn't enter into the American subconcious.
