Hyperion just don't have the money or the man-power to make a competitive OS for the Intel market, so sticking with the PPC niche market is the best route for them at the moment. Remember PPC isn't a dead-end, just because there are no major desktop computers using them anymore (Apple). The Power architecture is in use in the Nintendo Wii, Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360.
Yep I agree, Hyperion have no real reason to go to x86 and even if they did, such a move would be out of the question for them at this time. What a lot of people don't seem to realize is that the X1000 is their big OS4 push, if it fails I don't see how Hyperion and OS4 development can continue.
I can see AROS taking off but I can't really see MorphOS going anywhere, it has all the negatives of OS4 (PPC only, closed source) but with none of the positives.
