Realism sucks. I play a game to get away from reality for a while and zap some aliens.
If you want realism, make a footy game where you start playing as a kid, but you suck, so nobody picks you for playing, and you have watch the game from outside and cry to momma. THAT'S REALISM FOR YOU!

The trend of trying to make games more "realistic" is utterly disgusting.
