I can tell you for sure that you won't be able to use the full size of the 40-gigger. ;-)

AdIDE seems to like disks around 1GB maximum.

16 heads, 63 spt and 2047 cyls = 1056MB. [edit: you may be able to use larger drives, but this requires careful testing. :-)]

Oh, and forget the old custom gui prep SW.. Only use this: http://amiga.resource.cx/install/ICDPrepHD-42.dms

It is also possible to use RDB, but you've got to prep the disk with ICDPrepHD first. Just don't create any partitions with ICDPrepHD, exit immediately after you've detected and saved the disk geometry. Then use hdtoolbox against icddiskide.device (at least that's what it's called with my AdIDE)

I'll do some more investigation later regarding RDB support, whether it does other filesystems than FFS, etc..
