Cant be certain but i would guess that Driving force and Unreal didn't in fact use any sort of scaling.Rather the graphics used were the way they were for either keeping things fast or that memory just didn't allow for much in the way of detail for the hedge style 3d technique - essentially like Space Harrier then or indeed the other scaled looking Shock Wave

It would surely be asking just too much to achieve this on an A500 were it in actually true scaling
