The best spectrum tool I ever found is called OTLA and it is an algorithmic processor for the WAV files of spectrum (and other computer) tapes.

Using OTLA you can convert WAV (or TAP) files into very very small MP3 files (100KB average) which have been accelerated to many many times that of the original recording. These can be put on a very cheap 128MByte MP3 player (£5 from Tesco) and load games in only a few seconds.

P.S. Why get a +2 when you can get a +3?
