there is are other ways... first check your revision of A1200 motherboard. if you have a 2B board, you may well notice the 5 pin solder header just above and to the right of trapdoor connector.
this can be populated with pins for direct connection to an A500 keyboard.
The other method would be to CUT two traces on the motherboard and connect four wires to the MPU
