Are you sure your not quoting "today's" technology turn around time?. The hardware wasn't out of date within a few months back then, it cost more to produce chips and radical chipset designs were far out of reach for the average persons budget so they needed to hold back, but "today" we are seeing a turn around time of a few months.
You "are" right, but not in the terms i have mentioned.
