Please don't try and start a flame war here. WinUAE and MAME are NOTHING alike.
(And for the record, I see no serious problem with 1.x and above - I haven't used 0.8.8 for a long time to be honest.)
I'm not against maintaining accuracy altogether - it's just I wonder whether dropping features plenty of people loved in the past is often the right way to go about it.
Also, MAMEDev seem to devote a lot of time towards adding support for newer, more CPU-hungry games like San Francisco Rush that are never remotely playable in their preliminary form straight from the off (even on the most ninja of PCs), instead of - say - trying to fix older games that have had problems for ages (or even breaking certain games slightly through newer updates).
