The 030 runs cool (as it should if it's well-designed). The 2.5" HD seems to run cooler than any 3.5" HD I've ever owned. Not sure if this is typical of 2.5" HDs in general as I've had limited experience with them. I imagine having the machine on for days at a time wouldn't be healthy because of the lack of ventilation, but I haven't had any problems so far running it for several hours at a time.
