Why not? The 3rd FDD of my A2000 is connected through a serial connection. I'm not sure if it's a R232 connection. If it is, it SHOULD be possible.
Because that's how you made images of your C64 disks.. by hooking up your 1541 diskdrive with a special cable to your serial port.
